Martha Stewart: A Tour of Rose Story Farm

"Rose is a rose is a rose," as Gertrude Stein wrote. But not all of them are created equal. When Danielle and Bill Hahn opened their cut-flower business, Rose Story Farm, nearly two decades ago, they knew exactly what kind they wanted to grow: Eschewing the ubiquitous hybrid teas bred for longevity over scent, they planted old garden roses -- the lush, fragrant blooms of their grandparents' yards -- as well as their sweet-scented modern cousins. Today, the Hahns have more than 25,000 plants at their farm near Santa Barbara, California. In an industry where plants are often treated with synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, Rose Story Farm's beautiful organic blossoms are an American treasure.
